Choose Wisely - Proverbs
It can be a challenge navigating all that life throws at us. We are constantly faced with choices on how to address decisions within our relationships, jobs, or finances; choices on how to deal with difficult people or uncomfortable situations; choices on how to maneuver crises and the problems of life. The Bible describes those who are able to navigate life well as "wise."
The book of Proverbs offers instruction on how to find wisdom. Proverbs 1:2-7 outlines the purpose of the book, ultimately stating, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction." This summer we will study the book of Proverbs and allow it to teach us how to be wise on common areas we face in life. Consider using the following resources alongside our sermon series:
- Proverbs by Topic - We've compiled a number of Proverbs by topic, helping you study the Proverbs in a more targeted way.
- How to Read Proverbs by Tremper Longman III - This is a great and accessible book that helps us become better readers and interpreters of the book of Proverbs, and therefore helping us better understand how to become wiser. Each chapter includes discussion questions that can be used in a 3D context. We'd recommend starting here.
- When Wrong Seems Right by Adam Griffin - This is a good bible study of Proverbs to do with your kids. It is written to help kids understand what it means to be wise in their everyday life, as well as teach them how to study the bible.
- God's Wisdom for Navigating Life by Timothy & Kathy Keller - This is a daily devotional through the Proverbs, with a verse, short reflection, and prayer. It's a great resource to spend the year in Proverbs.
