Vision
If therefore our houses be houses of the Lord, we shall for that reason love home, reckoning our daily devotion the sweetest of our daily delights; and our family-worship the most valuable of our family-comforts… A church in the house will be a good legacy, nay, it will be a good inheritance, to be left to your children after you. ~ Matthew Henry, Clergyman

This quote by famous expositor and clergyman, Matthew Henry, sheds light on the important role that family members have in leaving a good inheritance for children by developing “a church in the house.” At The Well, we agree that the most important element for a child’s spiritual development is their family. While students will spend up to 78 hours each year at a Sunday church program, they can spend almost 4,000 hours each year with family members and friends. Therefore, it is our main goal to equip parents to pastor their families. We do this by inviting parents to serve on Sunday mornings, providing take-home curriculum to discuss with kids throughout the week, and holding training sessions on specific parenting topics.

Our second goal is to create an atmosphere for kids to develop their relationship with Jesus. It is important that each child grow in their personal relationship with Jesus. Our role on Sunday morning is to share about Jesus’ life and truths in a way that is developmentally appropriate for each age group of children. Each Sunday, a team of 10-15 volunteers lead the children through bible stories, memorizing key scripture, learning about missionaries, and praying. All of our volunteers must complete a background check in order to serve. We also require that all children wear a date-stamped name tag for the duration of the worship gathering. Volunteers will match the child’s name tag to one that the family member is given so that we can assure each child is released to the appropriate person.

The volunteers are a huge part of what make Sunday morning successful. The greater their understanding of The Gospel, the more our kids benefit from their teaching. Therefore, the final goal of family ministry at The Well is to assist our volunteers in growing their faith and giftings. Each week, there is a coach working with volunteers to help them develop as disciples and teachers of the truth of Jesus Christ. Volunteers work with specific age groups: Nursery, Preschool, and Elementary.
